Write a rough draft before taking the exam to work through your ideas

The University Writing Award
All ENGL 123 participate in a common final, which means all 123 students are participating in the same process. In the last week of class your instructor will give you a reading selected by the Writing Program Committee. You are to critique the reading and then create an argument in response an issue raised by the author.

At the final, you may bring notes in the margins of the reading, your texts, and additional articles, but you may not have any other notes or drafts. You must stay at the final for at least one hour. This common final counts as at least 10% of your course grade. For more information, see the assessment forms in the University Writing Guide.

Though your professor is not permitted to discuss the reading with you, you are encouraged to study with other ENGL 123 students. Additionally, you will be asked to create an argument of your own, using the reading prompt and other sources.
